Volvo, the Swedish automobile manufacturer, has long had a reputation for superior passenger safety standards. Now its technology may lead to enhanced safety for Canada’s wildlife, too.
According to the MTO, over 10,000 animals or large birds are struck by drivers in Ontario annually.
Volvo is developing an infra-red technology system that will identify animals on the road, particularly at night. And if the driver doesn’t react promptly, the system will activate braking based on a sophisticated camera-radar detection system.
The following 2.5 min. video shows why Ontario animals will be safer – even if they don’t know it – in years to come.

I think Northern Ontario will be a good candidate for this technology. I think it will save many lives – humans, deer & moose!
