A bright idea to avoid the stairs? maybe, but also a liability trap for the landlord. This is an example of how legal liability works in Canada.
If something happens where the balcony railing gives way or the rope breaks and the couch comes down on someone’s car—–or someone—-
the building owner will almost certainly be implicated in any legal action —- even though the landlord knows nothing of the incident. But that is how “vicarious liability” works in Canada—-and it can draw in almost anyone of us—-even if we didn’t have the bright idea.
